Michigan Charitable Gaming Rules Meeting 8/12/09

Yesterday I attended the Charitable Gaming Commission Rules Meeting in Monroe. The meeting started right on time at noon, and wrapped up at about 3pm. Here's a quick summary of what went on. It was a long meeting, so I'm only going to cover the highlights.

5 years ago, there were 681 Millionaire's Party Applications
the State is estimating over 9000 Millionaire's Party Applications by September '09

Main Subjects Covered:
  • Common Application Mistakes
  • Rental Agreement language
  • Application Information Change form
  • June 1st started the moritorium on new locations and suppliers. This moritorium will be in place for an indeterminate amount of time.
  • Advertising rules overview.
  • Review of event forms
  • Review of games allowed on the millionaire's party license - anything not explicitly allowed in the directives is prohibited. Org's can write to the state for permission to play games not explicitly allowed.
  • Workers cannot work and play at the same location on the same day.
  • Review of accounting and where the money goes. What is included in the 50% to cover expenses, what is not, and what is paid in cash, what is paid with a check.
The meeting was very informative, with lots and lots of details and questions clarified. Special thanks to Tom Reich, Mark Bently and Ron Wells for a great presentation, and lots of patience with lots of questions.
